| Field notes | Terrestrial herb, 2.5 m, in loose cluster, 20-30 cm between shoots. Rhizome fleshy, 1.5 cm. 4-12 leaves per shoot. Base 5-6 cm across, club-shaped, brown or reddish. Stem compressed, yellow green, margin not appressed, sometimes reddish. Ligule loosely connected to sheath. Petiole 5 cm. Lamina plicate, dark to plain green, 60 by 30 cm, ovate to lanceolate, pubescent below, base truncate or cordate, ±unequal (up to 1.5 cm), margin reddish. Inflorescence up to 25 cm, more or less hidden in leaf litter. 32 flowers per infl. Bracts cream to brownish red at exposed upper part, pubescent. Fertile bracts similar but more thin or membranous. Calyx pale red, pubescent with filiform pink tips. Petal lobes pale red. Labellum red, lateral lobes rigid and more pale red. Filament c. 6 mm pale red, anther pale red, stigma dark purple. Visited by the naì (spiderhunter bird). Vernacular name (Kelabit): tubu isip. Informed by Tayun /= Melayung Tepun, Paran Matu's father in Bario Asal. Collection from same population as Poulsen 1861.
