| Field notes | "Terrestrial herb to 3 m, dense clump, rhizome between shoot 20 cm max. Scales pale cream. Base not distinct, 6 cm diam, deeply reticulate, sheath reticulate, pale green, lamina plain green, glossy, purple below, also on old leaves. Inflorescence from rhizome, to 20 cm. Bracts white, distichous. Fertile bracts membranous, margin pink; floral bracts membranous, translucent, calyx pale to red at tip; petals dark purple to black; labellum yellow, apical lobe red; filament white to pale red; anther pale red with dark red short crest; stigma dark red.
