| Field notes | Terrestrial herb, 2-2.5 m. Rhizome long-creeping, bright red. ±stilt-rooted, red also. Base bright red. Sheath pale green, ligule 3.5 cm, purple, petiole 3-5 cm, canaliculate, purple in groove, lamina undulating, plain green, below hirsute, margin distinctly purple. Infructescence in soil, one fruit 4 by 5 cm. Cut stem smells of Etlingera elatior. Vernacular name in Kelabit: tubu apó. Informant: Maran Guna. cf.
