| Field notes | Terrestrial herb to 3 m, forming large colonies. Sheaths to 80 cm, petiole to 180 cm, lamina broadly elliptic, waxy glaucous, greyish green below. Inflorescence first with brownish-green bracts - later dark brown and withered, bracts, becoming branched c. 20 by 10-15 cm. Flowers pale yellowish white at mouth. Staminodial tube white, petals pale dirty violet-white. Fruits dark brown - olive-green, 2- or 3- locular, 1 seed per locule with greyish arillus with two large lobes (letter indicate inflorescence at base of leaf).
