Field notes Terrestrial herb to 3 m. Rhizome thick, short-creeping. Sheathes deeply reticulate, pale green; ligule 2-3 cm, membranous, dehiscing, petiole base swollen callused; lamina dark green, pale green, leathery. Inflorescence bracts subterranean, peduncle 5-7 cm, bracts pale to white with reddish margin, fertile bracts red, calyx red, petals dark purple, labellum with a red bifid tip and a central yellow, fringe-less extension, lateral lobes red, anther red. Fruits globular, velvety, pale pink to reddish, mature chewed by rodents and seeds removed. Material in spirit. Specimen at: SAN, KEP, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Sabah Parks, AAU, L, E.
