Field notes Solitary tree; trunc 12 m high, straight, unarmed; dbh 9 cm; internodes 10 cm, green; leaf scars clearly visible, brown, 2-3 cm wide; crown with 10 leaves, tristichous; crownshaft 50 cm long, pale green, outside covered with white, chalk-like powder, inside glossy orange-pink colour; petiole absent; rachis 200 cm long, adaxial side channeled near base and with two channels and a central ridge distally, abaxial side round; leaves pinnate, reduplicate, arrranged in fanshaped groups of 2 - 3 pinnae, distance between groups 10 cm, 20 - 30 groups on each side of rachis; central pinnae 40 - 50 cm long; inflorescence green, branched to 3rd order, 10 1st order branches, total length 80 cm; peduncle 20 cm long, 7 cm wide; fruits green, 1.5 cm long, 1.0 cm wide, the inside consists of a ruminate outer layer and a colourless inner core, uses: leaves or trunc with leaves used for decorative purposes, eg. at village entrance to honour visitors, planted near villages as ornamental; local name: Lafaza
