Field notes Canopy palm. Stem ca. 20 m high, dbh 50 cm .Crown with more than 6 leaves. Distinct crown shaft, 176 cm long, whitish-green to rusty brown in colour. Leaves pinnate. Petiole 50 cm long, rachis 340 cm. 73 pinnae on each side of rachis. Reduplicate, more or less regularly inserted, but in some places. Four inflorescences and infructescences in different development stages present. Infrafoliar. Hardy prophyl, yellow-green to brown in colour, 135 cm long, 20 cm wide. Peduncle flat 5-6 cm wide, ca. 2 cm thick and 12 cm long. At base 25 cm wide. Rachis 25 cm long, tapering. Branched to first order. Ca. 90 branches, 93 cm long. Flower buds pink. Whole inflorescence white-yellow with pink tinch. Fruits olive green in colour, round, 1 cm in diameter. Vernacular name: Sakae (Shuar). Uses: Palm heart edible, fruits edible. Stem used in the construction of houses.
