Field notes Understorey palmlet, 2 m high. Dbh 1.1 cm. Clearly visible leaf scars. Internodes 3-5 cm. Crown with 7 leaves. Leaves pinnate. Closed crown shaft, 18 cm long. Petiole 13 cm. Rachis 27 cm. 2-4 pinnae on each side of rachis. Pinnae of unequal shapes. Up to 34 cm long and 18 cm wide at insertion point. Often unequal no. of pinnae on each side of rachis. Inflorescence infrafoliar, situated in leaf scar below most basal leaf. Young inflorescence of yellow-green colour with reddish parts. Prophyl abscising. Peduncle 5 cm long. Rachis 4 cm. Branched to 1st order. 9 branches. 22 cm long, 0.3 cm wide. Vernacular name: Takanak (Shuar)
