Field notes Canopy palm with erect leaves. Pinnate leaves, reduplicate, 90 pinnae, regularly spaced. Petiole 165 cm long. Rachis 10.25 m long, green. Vernacular name: Kunkuki. (Shuar) Uses: Edible fruits and heart. Petiole of young leaves used for basketry, while petiole of old leaves is used to construct fish traps, darts and spears. The trunk is used to produce blow dart guns. Leaves are used as thatch, for christmas decorations and to make dart containers.
