Field notes Solitary tree, total height 20 m; trunc 15 m high, straight, unarmed; dbh 16 cm; internodes 5 cm; crown with 20 - 30 leaves, neatly abscicing; leaf sheath open, 40 cm long, covered with brown scales; petiole 100 cm long, green with brown scales on the abaxial side, abaxially round, adaxial side flat to slightly channeled; rachis 200 cm long, green with brown scales abaxially, abaxial side round, adaxial side channeled to ridged; leaves pinnate, reduplicate, 50 - 60 pinnae on each side of rachis, regularly arranged, central pinnae 50 - 70 cm long, 3 - 4 cm wide; inflorescence interfoliar, branched to 2nd order but very few 2nd order branches, total length 80 cm; peduncle 30 cm long, pale green with light brown scales; flowers white, 0.5 cm wide; prophyl light brown with brown scales; uses: palm heart eaten, edible grubs collected from rotting wood; local name: Anivona
