Field notes Solitary tree; trunc 10 - 20 m high, straight, unarmed; diameter near crown 13 cm; internodes green, 5 cm; leaf scars clearly visible, brown, 2 - 3 cm wide; crown with 10 leaves, tristichous; leaf sheath 115 cm long, 74 cm wide, pale green with white-brown scales, pale yellow inside; petiole absent or 5 cm at most; rachis 360 cm long, pale green with scattered white-brown scales, adaxially flat near base, ridged in distal sections, abaxially round; leaves pinnate, reduplicate, 91 pinae on each side of rachis, regularly spaced at a distance of 3 cm; central pinnae 110 - 120 cm long; inflorescence pendulous, white to yellow-cream, infrafoliar, branched to 2nd order, fragile; peduncle 20 cm long, 10 cm wide; prohpyl 80 cm long, 15 cm wide, yellow with pink tinge; uses: palm heart eaten; local name Tsaravoasira
