Field notes Solitary small palmlet, part of undergrowth, growing in population with many individuals; stem 1.5 - 2.0 m high, straight, unarmed; diameter 0.5 - 1.0 cm; internodes 3 - 4 cm wide; crown with 10 - 15 leaves, slightly litter trapping; crownshaft 7 - 10 cm long, green with reddish brown scales, cream white at base, remains attached in upper section of stem; petiole 2 cm long, green with brown scales; leaves bifid, 26 cm long, 6 cm wide, midrib 20 cm long; inflorescence interfoliar, green with brown scales, branched to 2nd order, 5 - 10 1 st order branches, total inflorescence length 15 cm long; peduncular bracts 10 cm long; uses: stem used as "nails" in house construction; local name: Sinkiaramboalavo
