| Field notes | Solitary tree; trunc 15 m high, straight, unarmed; dbh 9 cm; internodes 3 cm; leaf scars obscure; crown with 28 leaves, neatly abscicing; leaf sheath open, 20 cm wide, green, covered with brown tomentum on outside, inside yellow at base, reflexed fibres along the edges; petiole 127 cm long, rachis 170 cm long, adaxial sides flat, abaxial sides of both petiole and rachis round; leaves pinnate, reduplicate, 50 pinnae on each side of rachis, regularly arranged, central pinnae 60 cm long; inflorescence interfoliar, yellow, branched to 1st order, totale length 130 cm; peduncle 65 cm; flowers white, few mm across; peduncular bracts 80 cm long , brown, covered with brown tomentum; uses: palm heart eaten though bitter; local name: Ferinempoka. |
